There Is Nothing Else Like It
Welzie is the only artist in the world creating fine art this way. Not on canvas. Not on wood. On surfboard foam — hand shaped, layered with fiberglass, built up with pigmented resin, and finished to a high-gloss polish using the exact same process used to build a surfboard.
Every original is a sculpture before it's a painting. And every one takes anywhere from four months to a year to complete.
This is not décor. This is a body of work.
How It's Made
Built Like a Surfboard. Finished Like Fine Art.
Welzie starts with fresh surfboard foam, hand shaping it into whatever size or form the piece calls for. From there it receives a layer of fiberglass, then lamination — the foundation that gives each piece its structure and strength.
Next comes the background. Using hand-pigmented resin, Welzie builds up seven to thirteen layers of color — each one adding depth, dimension, and that signature abstract quality. It gets a clear coat, then sanding until the surface is smooth enough to paint.
That's when the imagery arrives. Using Posca pens — an acrylic-based marker — Welzie hand paints every character, every line, every detail directly onto the surface. Then a hot coat, a gloss, and a final polish bring the piece to its finished state.
The influences are unmistakable — the bold lines of Keith Haring, the wit of Banksy, the abstract energy of Pollock and Rothko, and the pure whimsical joy of Dr. Seuss — translated into something entirely Welzie's own.

Others have been watching for years. They've stayed at the Andaz, fallen in love with the work, maybe bought an aluminum or two. And at some point they decide — they don't want a reproduction. They want the real thing. Something no one else has. Something that took months to make and will never exist again.
And then there are the collectors who have been living with the work for years, adding piece by piece, commissioning large-scale originals for specific walls, specific rooms, specific feelings they want to walk into every day.
Welzie originals range from $4,000 for a small piece to $150,000 for a large-scale statement work. Sculptural installations range from $50,000 to one million in private collections. These are not impulse purchases. They are investments in an artist whose work is still growing in value, in visibility, and in reach.

Welzie releases just 12 to 15 originals for public sale each year — the rest go directly to private commission clients. When a piece speaks to you, that's the moment to make it yours, because that exact piece won't come around again.
Aluminum editions stay available until their run of 99 sells out. Originals don't come back at all. If you do miss your window with an original, you can circle back for the aluminum if it is available.

No — each original is one-of-one, hand-built from surfboard foam, fiberglass, and resin. It becomes the parent piece for our limited edition aluminum reproductions — up to 99 aluminum pieces may be released from that same image, but only one original will ever exist. That's the reason for the price difference you're seeing between an aluminum and its original.
Anywhere from three months to eighteen months, depending on the size and complexity of the piece — some large-scale installations have taken up to three years. Originals start at $4,000 and are priced based on the scope of the piece.
You own the physical piece. Welzie Art retains all copyright and reproduction rights — including the right to reproduce, license, digitize, create derivative works, or use the image in any digital or blockchain-based format (including NFTs). No license, express or implied, is granted with your purchase. This applies to aluminum edition pieces as well as originals, and continues to apply even if the artwork is later resold or gifted.

What's not included: reproducing, reprinting, or feeding the image into AI tools to generate new works — those rights stay with Welzie Art. Commercial use requires our written permission.
